Full disclosure; I started revving up on comic reading in 2017. What broaden my perspective was reviewing comics for Geek-O-Rama and Con Freaks and Geeks. It open my eyes to more than DC and Marvel, there are fresh new stories out there.

One that I was surprised I would absolutely love; the rebirth of Jem and The Holograms and The Misfits. I am a child of the 1980s, this one one of the few girly cartoons I enjoyed. When I heard this was coming back in comic form, I was intrigued. But, I was also skeptical. I had a chance to review these comics with Geek-O-Rama last year and I fell in love.

Writing
Kelly Thompson has resurrected this cartoon from the 1980s and made it relevant to today, which is you have watched anything that has been rebooted, that is no small task. In my very humble opinion, Kelly Thompson has taken this cartoon framework and created something wonderful. The storylines are very concise and on point. Thompson has add depth to all the characters; there is more diverse back stories. Speaking of diverse, Jem is one of the more ethnically diverse comics out there and very grrl power driven.
Art
The the three artist that have taken this comic to the next level are Sophie Campbell, M. Victoria Robado, and Jenn St-Onge. The beautiful layouts from cover to cover are spectacular!
It is a fun escape from the action heroes and crime fighting seen in mainly ALL comics coming out today.
