I like to share the comics I pick up for the week. Some weeks I will not because I don't find anything interesting to me. I would love to hear what you picked up this week!
Marvel #1s
Some of Marvel's main characters are getting a new overhaul. The new #1s started in May with The Avengers, Venom and Black Panther. Well, I was a little late to the party, but I ended up getting Deadpool and Dr. Strange.
Deadpool is still Deadpool, except he is back being a "merc for hire" with the help of Negasonic Teenage Warhead. This is a number one because Deadpool is getting a new origin, he doesn't remember how he obtained his powers or anything before being an Avenger. Makes for a funny read, as he tries different origin stories that include others characters and characters from other publishers. Skottie Young contributes, that is one of the reasons I wanted to see what they did. If you have not read I Hate Fairyland, you're missing out on some twisted story lines and art!
The only run in I had with Dr. Strange in the comics was his part in 1602, which was a really awesome read...perhaps I will write about it....Stephen Strange has lost all ability to use his powers and to travel on other astral planes.
He doesn't like to be vulnerable and does not want to let all mystics know, but he needs help. He goes to the only person he knows who can help, Tony Stark.
Now, these new #1s are not really new, they continue with the Legacy series. Here, I took a really bad image last night so you can see what I mean.
The corner says "#1" but it also gives a "LGY" number so readers know where this story line falls. So, it is a a great marketing plan to reintroduce some characters, but it still will sell all other issues to see how they plan to incorporate these new stories within continuing stories.
Truth be told, my first comic book love was Marvel but they lost me after the 1990s. I pick up the occasional Marvel comic in trades though. Their stories tend to stretch beyond my attention span, so I wait and carefully choose my trades.
This is the first of my "Haul of the Week" post! I will see you later for other comics and remember, ALWAYS shop local :)
